It’s been too long I have been researching in UI/UX domain so I thought of sharing my experience with you all.

Many people ask the question “What’s the actual difference between UI and UX design?” because these two domains are often confused. :)

So, I decided to write a quick introduction to these two very broad topics: User Interface Design and User Experience Design. Understanding the proper usage and meaning of the terms is absolutely necessary for both disciplines.

Let’s start with the basic difference between the two?

First of all, UI is not UX this is the most common misconception that you will hear in today’s digital environment.

UI is how things look. It is the process of making interfaces in software with a focus on looks or style. On the other hand UX is a process that means how things actually work.

Let’s talk about the two terms further...

User Experience Design (UX)

User Experience (UX) design is all about creating amazing and hassle-free experiences for the user.

“No product is an island. A product is more than the product. It is a cohesive, integrated set of experiences. Think through all of the stages of a product or service — from initial intentions through final reflections, from first usage to help, service, and maintenance. Make them all work together seamlessly.”

— Don Norman, inventor of the term “User Experience”

A UX designer thinks about how the experience makes the user feel, and how easy it is for the user to accomplish their desired tasks. You have to know who your users are and what they want to achieve using your app. For example: How easy is the checkout process when shopping online? The overall purpose of UX design is to create easy, relevant, and amazing experiences for the user.

User Interface Design (UI)

The user interface is the graphical layout of an application. UI consists of the buttons users click on, the images, videos, texts, and overall interaction & the behavior of the application. The main goal of the UI designers is to create a user interface that is engaging, attractive and beautiful.

It definitely takes a good eye for design and a lot of practice to get better in it. The thing that I realized until the time I started in UI design is that design is not at all about learning to use design software. Anyone can do that but you need to learn the process and strategy of the design. In UI design, you need to experiment, and understand your users and their journey throughout using your product.

“Design is not just what it looks like and feels like. Design is how it works.” –Steve Jobs

It’s very important to understand that UX and UI do go hand-in-hand, you can’t have one without the other though you don’t need to possess UI design skills to be a UX designer, and vice versa.

I hope the article helped you understand UI and UX design. I will be back with the other articles based on UI/UX till then have fun and keep hustling. :) I’d love to hear any feedback or any thoughts on the post.
